Updates:

Website - Right now Mike is the one who updates the website and post new materials. The national committee is discussing how to set it up so that other can have access and update the website. We’ll need  form a committee and the committee should  have at lease one representative from each city/area .  We will also need to make a direct connection between facebook page and website, so that whenever there is update on one, the other updates too.

BBQ – Sent out thank you cards

Fundraising – Someone is donating a old car. Mike will help sell it and the proceeds from selling the car will go to API Movement.

Core group – Truc is going to step down from core group because she started graduate school.

Discussion:

Immigrant rights work:

What does API Movement has capacity for? What should be APIM’s role?

1. Common Education Campaign – the STIRR meeting coordinated by AARW has a plan to start a common education plan.  The goal is to broaden how we talk about immigrant rights issues, (e.g. CPA has material on workers issues and history but nothing on the DREAM Act, and SIM thinks that they should expand their educational materials to include some history).  At the next meeting, different groups will bring their educational materials to share.  API movement will bring  materials to share.

2. Coordinate STIRR through google group/calendar – the idea is to keep the groups informed of each other’s work and event, create mutual support amongst the groups.  It is unclear if this will be done through AARW fellows or API Movement.

3. DREAM Act – there is a lot of activities around DREAM Act, SIM is asking people to sign support letters, etc.  APIM movement will not be able to coordinate but will play a  support role.

4.  Chinese Exclusion Act Repeal event on 12/17 - The national committee brought up this idea, since immigrant rights will continue to be a hot topic and the Chinese Exclusion Act has relevance to immigrant rights.  Everyone is supportive of doing an event in Boston.  We’ll discussion in what forms we will have the event  (e.g. workshop/discussion, art/photo exhibit, rally, film showing  … )  Will discuss at next meeting

5. BAASIC conference – this year’s BAASIC conference will be at MIT on Oct. 2nd. Out goral is to get people interested in APIM and sell some of our stuff.  We don’t think tabling is effective, Mike and Karen will discuss to do a workshop on immigrant rights, re-using materials used in previous workshops. However, there are already a few workshops on immigrant rights

6. Re-retreat – talk about this at next meeting.

Next Meeting:

10/12 6:00 pm

Discussion topics: 12/17 event & re-retreat.
