Activist Training Institute (Boston)
The Activist Training Institute (ATI) is the training and leadership development arm of the Asian Pacific Islander Movement Boston. Since 2005, API Movement-Boston and Asian American Resource Workshop have co-sponsored this summer TRAINING program for young ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICANS (APAs) adults to develop political analysis and ORGANIZING skills through a social justice lens within the context of building an Asian American MOVEMENT. Who should apply?
APAs who:
- Live or work in and around Boston area (This could include college students or working professionals)
- Have prior experience working in APA communities and/or social justice work
- Are committed to working within the APA community
- Want to be connected to others who share a desire for social change and social justice
- Are looking for new learning opportunities
ATI’s goals are to:
- Build a commitment to organizing and activism in Boston
- Build and grow a multigenerational community of Asian American social justice-minded activists
- Build organizing skills
- Deepen political analysis of issues and movement building
Topics include: values and vision, Asian American history, social movements, Boston Asian American communities, leadership development, and organizing skills such as base building and campaign strategy development. We use experiential learning methods, including field trips, case studies, interactive and fun exercises, and presentations. We combine concepts and frameworks with opportunities to practice/apply learning in your communities between training sessions.
Taught by an intergenerational team of activists and trainers.
