Core Meeting 4/13/10
1. Quarterly mobilization
We decided that we would all go to the rally on May Day, Saturday, May 1st.
We would try to mobilize some people
Truc will contact Peter about some interested students
STIRR Facebook (Judy)
Event mailing list (Karen)
Get on AARW calendar (Michael)
API Movement non-core contacts (Michael)
We are waiting on Karen contact with CPA about a place and time to congregate
2. Events As Part of AARW Series
Desired: Philadelphia Beatings
Helen Gym, Cecelia Chan
(Mike will pass contact info to Todd)
Future and contingent topics
Women Activist Issues
Health Care Reform (everyone check interest with contacts - who might come)
Immmigrant Rights (see below)
3. What to do with ATI and STIRR
ATI
more API Movement general members involved - it's a way to keep contact
larger circle of contacts also around it
limited API Movement core influence and role - maybe encourage participation, insert module in curriculum, provide some resources, have a representative
We should do it.
STIRR
The issue that most of us, particularly Karen and Judy are more concerned about - action and not just training
limited to the Core
Decision: to step back STIRR work to education about immigrant rights
This way, we can work into AARW community building events, educational workshops for workers, and maybe ATI
Judy will participate in other formations representing API Movement but let them know we're mainly focused on education
4. Working with API Movement general members
Partly addressed through ATI
We need to discuss more about people like Terri and Suzanne Pan, who aren't involved in ATI
Next meeting
6PM CPA on April 29th if we can mobilize some others to go on May Day march
Agenda will be full meeting as well as discussing organizign the others
If no one else going, then we'll meet on
May 11th.
