March Conference Call Notes

Update:
Mike - Small group might go from Boston - including my son, and another young person we are working with at AARW.
Discussing what to do with local APIMB in Boston - stepping up through AARW or keeping it as it is.
Mark - Question on people's mind is whether it's a broad gathering of Chinese community organizing group or not. Not as much as interest as before - Tammy Lu, left folks.
Helena - came back from the GGJ membership assembly - spoke a little. Been on the emails initiated with Grace Lee Boggs. Plan to bring out folks from NY - 10 people? CPA bringing 15-20 members.
GGJ: organization are talking about doing one workshop together.
Grace idea: exchange among Asian activists. Conference call next week. Can rent a tent/canopy. Can plan a social event through this.
Talking to Alex: doing one workshop that CAAAV or CPA on Asian organizing.
Stacy - AIWA, APEN, AYPAL coming out.

Discussion:
Chinese Worker Organizing: Kimi has started on interviews and proposed to do a surveymonkey.
Not a lot of response so maybe we just pick up the ball on this. Since CPA Boston isn't going to be there, might not make sense to do an exchange w/o them. Maybe do a check in.

Social: We can do on our own, but need to understand better what else is happening so we can connect/participate in. Can plug into the work that is already going to happen. Can use the FB page to publicize the event.

Canopy: Can't commit to leadership on this. Can find out what is happening.

Workshop: CPA and CAAAV are talking about doing a workshop - that we could support if it happens.

Closed conversation with APIMB: Won't do because the right folks won't be there.

Next steps
Wait til this conversation happens.

Mike raised: APIMB website - people have not been using it really. How to make it more useful and involve others in it. People can contribute more openly to website.
Helena: monitoring is important.
Stacy: depends if we want to make it organizational
Mark: get some folks invovled in social media involved.

Subject: Re: National APIMB call notes

Notes 2/9/2010

Mike: We are going through some issues. Locally, we're going through restructuring because a number of folk have stepped back from core. We just had a retreat and adopted a new strategy based upon doing more grassroots work through ARW, gathering more people who are interested in being active (but not necessarily at a politically high level) through social/films/potluck. Haven't yet had time to talk about USSF. Pull people in from this base into the core. We're trying to keep ATI and immigrant rights stuff going. Will talk to Boston folks about going.

Helena: Re: USSF, people are talking about it. DWU are doing a workers conference at the forum where workers in fields not regulated can come together. CAAAV is thinking about participating even though might not send workers. We are trying to send people to the USSF - contingent on fundraising.

Call for workshops is open right now. They are doing a conference call next Friday to talk more about the national alliance. Website has a bunch of info.

Stacy: Bay sending a good number of folks. See notes from call.
Re: workers exchange, Kimi thinking of doing a survey to gather data to get people involved.
ACT transfering curriculum to college students
Pipeline project - helping younger people stay involved.

Mark: not a lot of discussion in LA. lots of organizations are strapped. as we get closer more people will come.

Next steps:
Social thing - can do
Exchange - depends on who can get out there. Organizations can anchor it and APIMB can support.
Strategy meeting - only if the right folks are actually attending. Caution against bringing anybody.

Mike can set up Facebook event page.

Next call Tuesday March 9 6:00 PM Pacific/
