Congressman Seeking to Deport Iranians from the USA

In a response to the Christmas Day Underwear Bomber plot, Congressman Gresham Barrett (R) of South Carolina is planning to reintroduce legislation that will deport Iranians (and others) without permanent resident status from the USA.

Called the Stop Terrorists Entry Program Act (STEP), the legislation would both deport all Iranians living in the USA and furthermore bar citizens from Iran, Cuba, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from enterring the USA.

As one blog put it, this legislation evokes memories of the Japanese American internment by the USA and the Nazi treatment of Jews during WWII.

Or as George Santayana famously put it, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
