Immigrant Activists Converge on D.C.: March for America
Immigrant Rights Activists are mobilizing for an expected 100,000 perosn march and show of force tomorrow, Sunday March 21st to pressure the administration and Congress to enact immigration reform this year.
Asian American groups like National Korean American Service and Education Consoritum (NAKASEC), the Southeast Asian Resource Action Center, and Asian American Justice Center have been working to catalyze Asian American engagement in the issue. There will be an Asian American gathering/rally prior to the march at Franklin Park at 12 noon. They will then join the larger March on the National Mall.
While Health legislation has pushed everything else to the side, if the legislation is passed soon, immigration may soon be on the agenda. The most progressive proposed legislation to date has been put forward by Luis Guitterrez of Illinois and the Hispanic Caucus. Recently, however, Chuck Schumer and Lindsay Graham have proposed another bill that incorporates a national work identification card.
API Movement encourages everyone who can to join the immigrant rights "March for America."
